Lionsgate said it wants to ramp up its 10/90 model for comedy production on the heels of its recent success with the Charlie Sheen-starring
“Anger Management.” A George Lopez show is moving towards launch, while Lionsgate confirmed Tuesday a series featuring an “odd couple pairing” of Martin Lawrence and Kelsey
Grammer is in development.
The 10/90 model, which was pioneered by Lionsgate unit Debmar-Mercury, calls for 10 initial episodes to be offered and if a ratings threshold is met,
production of 90 more is automatically triggered.
After a pickup, Debmar-Mercury can then move into the syndication market. “Anger Management,” which is on FX, has been
sold in 70% of the country for a fall 2014 launch. The Fox station group has picked it up.
Matt Williams, a creator and executive producer on “Roseanne” and “Home
Improvement,” has been signed as the showrunner for the Lopez show.
Debmar has also used the 10/90 model with Tyler Perry productions on TBS.
Separately, on an
earnings call, Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer confirmed a decision is coming soon on a media agency for the combined account of Lionsgate and the recently acquired Summit film studio.
