MetLife To Sponsor World Baseball Classic

Metlife-Snoopy-A_1MetLife has inked a multipart deal to sponsor next month’s World Baseball Classic that includes blimps hovering over games in four cities, offering footage for broadcasts on MLB Network and ESPN Deportes. The agreement also makes the company the “official insurance company” of the tournament and title sponsor of the all-tournament team.

A trio of blimps will fly over games in Phoenix, Miami, San Francisco and Tokyo. Footage produced will also be used in a global feed.

MetLife is the fourth global sponsor of the event, joining Brand USA, Delta and Konami.

In the U.S., MLB Network will carry all 39 games in English and ESPN Deportes in Spanish. Japan won the first two editions of the World Baseball Classic in 2006 and 2009. Other teams participating include the U.S., Mexico, Korea, Netherlands and Dominican Republic.

MetLife has a notable presence in Korea, Japan and Mexico. Its sponsorship also includes in-stadium exposure involving its Snoopy brand ambassador.

Members of the previous all-tournament teams include Japan’s Daisuke Matsuzaka and the U.S.’s Ken Griffey Jr.
