Google Increases Smartphone Share

Google’s Android operating system continued to increase its share of the smartphone market, according to data released by Kantar Worldpanel ComTech.

Android-powered phones accounted for more than half (51.2%) of smartphone sales for the three month period ending February 2013. That’s 5.8% growth over the same period last year. Apple-powered phones accounted for 43.5% of sales, down 3.5% over last year. Windows-powered phones grew 4.1% over last year.

Verizon remained the country’s top smartphone carrier, selling 35% of the phones during the period. Though AT&T was in second place, Spring showed gains, accounting for 15% of smartphone sales, up 2.1% over last year.
