TV Shipments To Decline Again

  • April 9, 2013

Television shipments are expected to drop again in 2013, marking the second straight year of delcines, though things make be looking up for 2014.

According to IHS iSuppli, shipments of televisions into the U.S. will amount to 36.6 million in 2013, down from 37.6 million in 2012. Though the contraction of 2.7% is smaller than the 5.8% slide in 2012, it will mean shipments will have declined for two straight years.

Once 2013 is over, however, the industry will see shipments increase to 37.8 million, thanks to the introduction of organic light-emitting diode televisions, which will start appearing in the first half of this year. Though the first shipments of OLED TVs will be relatively low at first, the higher prices could mean higher revenues for the industry, according to the company.
