The cover athlete for the 25th anniversary of EA Sports’s Madden franchise will be Barry Sanders, who was chosen after a fan vote that pitted NFL legends such as Jerry Rice and Joe Montana against current players such as current MVP Adrian Peterson.
Sanders’ selection marks the first time an athlete has appeared on back-to-back covers for EA titles. (Sanders appeared on the cover of NCAA Football 13 with Robert Griffin III last year.) More than 40 million people voted in this year’s Madden cover contest.
“The Madden NFL franchise has such a rich tradition and history, and there’s no better way to celebrate our 25th Anniversary than by having one of the best players of all-time on the cover,” said Anthony Stevenson, Senior Director of Marketing for EA Sports in a statement. “Barry Sanders has long been a fan favorite, so we’re proud to have him as the face of Madden NFL 25.”
