Travel Sites Hotel Search Queries Rise

Heading into the summer months, marketers shouldn't assume the increase in search queries for hotels is related to warmer vacation weather, especially when most are for business-related activities. While the majority of travel searches on Kayak are for airlines, hotel queries continue to grow. Hotel searches rose from 24 million in 2007 to 167 million in 2012, according to eMarketer, which points to data from stock analysis firm Trefis. The April 2013 estimates suggest that searches worldwide on Kayak will triple to 3.6 billion queries by 2019, up from 1.2 billion in 2012. The stats reveal that business searches for hotels garner $321 in distribution revenue per 1,000 searches compared with $79 per 1,000 airline requests. Read the article here.
