Taco Bell is going for a healthier profile by testing a new "Protein Power" menu.
Starting July 25, the chain will be testing, in some 40 locations in Ohio, a limited menu that includes a steak burrito, a chicken burrito, a steak bowl and a chicken bowl -- all offering 20-plus grams of protein and under 450 calories.
The offerings are designed to appeal to Millennials, the chain's core demographic, who prefer "performance" foods that offer high protein and low fat, Taco Bell said.
Assuming that results of the five- to six-week test meet expectatios, Taco Bell hopes to roll out the menu next year.
The chain is also testing new, zero-calorie beverges, including varieties of PepsiCo's SoBe Lifewater.
