Hearst To Launch Dr. Oz Magazine

If you thought Dr. Mehmet Oz couldn’t possibly become more ubiquitous, think again. Hearst Corp. is working with the dashing medical superstar to create a new women’s lifestyle magazine devoted to healthy living the Oz way.

The magazine, which has yet to receive a title, will target women with content about well-being, food, beauty, real-life stories, news, travel and finances -- all delivered with Oz’s friendly persona. The magazine will launch with two pilot issues in the first half of 2014, with the possibility of a regular publication schedule in the second half of the year.

The first pilot issue will have a newsstand distribution of 350,000, while another 450,000 copies will be sent to subscribers of other Hearst publications.

Oz stated: “This is about a lifestyle. Feeling great is the key to living well and this content will provide women with everything they need to feel inspired and live a long, healthy, joyful life.”

The new magazine will have cross-promotional opportunities with Oz’s nationally syndicated TV show, "The Dr. Oz Show," which is carried by 18 Hearst TV stations around the U.S. Oz rocketed to fame as a frequent guest on "The Oprah Winfrey Show," beginning in 2004, which led to numerous other TV appearances and eventually his own TV show. He also has regular columns in Time and O, The Oprah Magazine.

This is just the latest in a series of new magazine launches from Hearst, based on TV programs. Hearst launched O, The Oprah Magazine, in 2001, followed by Food Network Magazine in 2008 and HGTV Magazine in 2011

I'm not very optimistic for success. Methinks OZ is approaching the beginning of the end.
