NBC Upfront Records 17% Hike, Net To Debut 3 New Comedies

NBC has wrapped its prime-time upfront deal-making, perhaps landing as much as a 17% volume increase to around $2.1 billion, a source familiar with the matter said. CPMs were said to be up in the 7% to 8% range.

Under NBCUniversal sales chief Linda Yaccarino, the company went to market with a portfolio approach, looking to get buyers to purchase time on up to 70 properties, including Telemundo, 18 cable networks and dozens of digital properties.

Virtually all prime-time deals included at least one other NBCU property and were likely to include many others.

The $2.1 billion figure does include “Sunday Night Football,” which with its popularity undoubtedly went a long way to contributing to the volume bump.

NBC’s increase comes as CBS was said to have flat volume and Fox registered about a 10% drop.

NBC plans to premiere three new Thursday comedies -- "Welcome to the Family," Sean Hayes' "Sean Saves The World" and "The Michael J. Fox Show." "Parks & Recreation" will receive a new time slot at 8 p.m. -- while "Community" will come back for 13 episodes, but not until midseason. "The Voice" will also be returning.
