FDA Defines Gluten-Free For Voluntary Labeling

  • August 5, 2013

The Food and Drug Administration has published a new regulation defining the term "gluten-free" for purposes of voluntary food labeling.

To make a gluten-free claim on a label, the food must meet all of the FDA's requirements in the definition -- including that it contain less than 20 parts per million of gluten, reports Supermarket News.

Food manufacturers will have one year to bring their labels into compliance with the new requirements.
