NBCSN To Launch English Premier League Soccer

As a potentially defining property launches on NBC Sports Network this weekend, the network will accelerate efforts to be known as NBCSN. A logo with the acronym with an exaggerated cursive “S” will be further emphasized, while on-air commentators will redouble efforts to refer to the channel by its shortened moniker as will on-air graphics.

The network will launch English Premier League soccer matches on Saturday starting at 7 a.m. and will offer dozens of games in the coming year.

As the Winter Olympics in Russia approach, other NBC Sports outlets will also promote the network by its new iteration.

“This is a natural evolution from the longer channel name to the acronym, as NBCSN is streamlined visually and a faster read,” stated NBC Sports Group CMO John Miller. “By the Winter Olympics in February, the transformation will be complete, and the Games will be used to solidify NBCSN as the network’s name and brand.”

During the weekend, on-air machinations will have NBC Sports Network dissolve to the NBCSN logo with an accompanying voiceover.

The refashioned identity should also be largely in place by the time the network begins its extensive coverage of the National Hockey League this fall, while college football should also bring some exposure

The irony here is NBCSN is much longer to say than Versus (two syllables!), which was a much cooler name that also embraced the sports content.
