Tribune Broadcasting Names Dollenmayer Marketing Head

Brian Dollenmayer, who spent close to 20 years at Fox, is moving to Tribune in a top marketing role. Dollenmayer will oversee marketing at WGN America and will work with Tribune’s 23 local stations and multicast networks as executive vice president/marketing and promotions.

At Tribune, he rejoins former Fox boss Peter Liguori, now the company’s CEO. He will report to WGN America President and General Manager Matt Cherniss and Larry Wert, who heads the local businesses.

WGN America is looking to offer a lineup of original programming, announcing a second show in the pipeline on Wednesday. “Manhattan,” which spins around the scientists working to build the first atom bomb in New Mexico, will come from Skydance Television, Tribune Studios and Lionsgate.

Cherniss stated that Dollenmayer has “been associated with some of the most successful shows on television and understands how to mount an effective promotional campaign that creates buzz and delivers audience from day one.”

In addition to launching would-be cutting-edge dramas, Dollenmayer’s responsibilities will also extend to promotions locally for a large group of affiliates of both the CW and Fox.

Dollenmayer’s most recent role at Fox was executive vice president/on-air promotion and marketing operations, where he oversaw creative activity for the network, including for series such as “American idol” and “Glee.”

He is not a stranger to local TV, having worked at stations in Columbus and Indianapolis
