NYT's Liberman Named Yahoo News Editor In Chief

Yahoo News has tapped former New York Times staffer Megan Liberman as editor in chief, charged with overseeing “a major expansion” of the section, according to a company announcement Monday.

In her new role, she will also focus on original reporting, social news gathering, video, and live events coverage.

Liberman was most recently deputy news editor at the NYT, involved in driving digital initiatives such as the newspaper’s blog network and live streamed coverage of the 2012 elections. Previously, she was deputy editor at The New York Times Magazine, responsible for all digital features and strategy. She was also the magazine’s first Web editor.

Yahoo rolled out a redesigned version of Yahoo News in June modeled after its updated home page, with an infinite-scrolling news feed, cleaner layout and more video.

Articles appearing in the feed also become more personalized over time based on a user’s reading habits. Yahoo has also continued to beef up its news coverage through direct hiring as well as by partnering with content providers such as ABC News.
