Crain Acquires American Demographics

Crain Communications Inc., parent of Advertising Age, has purchased American Demographics magazine from Primedia, with the intention of shutting down the magazine as a stand-alone title. Instead, the publisher plans to fold the title's coverage of consumer demographic data into a regular feature of Ad Age and AdAge.com.

American Demographics, which has been around since 1979, was estimated by some to be worth roughly $2 million. While respected editorially, the title had long struggled with advertising revenue. In August, Primedia sold its majority stake in trade publications Folio and Circulation Management.
