Research based on data from a Constant Contact Small Business Council June 2013 survey of 1,305 participants found that most small businesses would rather outsource social media, and search engine
optimization, than support it in-house. The research panel of U.S. small businesses and nonprofits recruited from the Constant Contact customer base found that 40% of small businesses outsource TV and
radio ads; followed by search engine optimization at 35%; online banner ads at 23%; Web site development, 22%; and local print ads, at 20%.
