Dentsu Reports 5% September Ad Spend Growth

Tokyo ad holding company Dentsu Inc. reported today that September billings were up nearly 5% compared to September 2012, the fifth consecutive month of growth.

The agency said that ad spending during the month was “led by a robust demand for television spots.”

Spending was up in 11 out of 20 major categories, the company reported. Big gainers included automotive, finance and insurance, communications and government organizations.

By percentage increase, interactive spending showed the biggest gain, up 32%. Outdoor was up 9% and TV was up 8%. Radio and magazines were down about 7% each.

September’s gain followed a nearly 17% year-on-year gain in August spending by Dentsu clients, which the company said was the biggest August gain in its history. Auto and finance were two of the bigger category gainers.
