NBC Tops All Broadcast Networks

Four weeks into the new TV season and NBC still is on top -- along with the four English-language national broadcast networks averaging slightly better overall viewing results than a year ago.

In terms of overall number of viewers in prime time, the four networks are averaging a Nielsen 8.16 million total viewers through four weeks -- up 2% from 7.97 million versus the same time period a year ago.

But key 18-49 viewers have gone in the other direction, slipping 1% to a 2.26 rating average.

NBC is at a 2.99 rating among 18-49 viewers and 9.29 million overall average viewers, up from a 2.90 18-49 rating and 8.10 million overall viewers.

CBS is next, but well behind with an average 2.06 rating among 18-49 viewers and 9.8 million viewers. This is down from CBS’ 2.21 rating among 18-49 viewers and 9.96 million overall viewers.

Also slightly lower is ABC -- at a 2.02 rating in the key demographic versus its 2.07 of a year ago. Overall, average viewers are now at a 7.31 million against 7.89 million.

Fox is next with a 1.91 rating, now identical to its 1.91 rating among 18-49 viewers of a year ago through four weeks. Overall viewers are higher: 5.81 million versus 5.48 million.

Brad Adgate, senior vice president and director of research at Horizon Media, says the five highest-rated new shows among adult 18-49 viewers continue to be: ABC’s “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D”; NBC’s “The Blacklist”; CBS’ “The Millers”; Fox’ “Sleepy Hollow”; and CBS’ “The Crazy Ones.&rdquo
