Touchdown: NBC Scores Sundays With 'SNF'

NBC piled on another Sunday night win -- easily dispensing the other networks with a big “Sunday Night Football” ratings score.

NBC averaged a Nielsen preliminary 7.0 rating/17 share among 18-49 viewers -- almost doubling Fox's and ABC’s scores, with both networks taking in a 3.7/9. CBS was next at a 1.5/4, followed by Univision at a 1.2/3.

“Sunday Night Football” got to a high-flying 8.8/20 for the popular contest between the Denver Broncos and the New England Patriots. This was down a few tenths from the contest the week before.

Fox got the benefit of some NFL ratings of its own -- due to some afternoon spillage of football action --the Dallas Cowboys and New York Giants -- into prime time. It scored a 7.3/21 during the 7 p.m. hour, and for the second hour at 8 p.m. it grabbed a 6.2/16 for the NFL coverage as well as its post-game show.

Leading into Fox’s lineup of animated comedies, the network tallied a 2.9/7 for “The Simpsons,” 2.2/5 for “Family Guy” and a 1.8/4 for “American Dad.”

ABC joined the fray in a strong way on Sunday with the “American Music Awards,” a special that comprised three hours of programming between 8 p.m. and 11 p.m. The network earned a 4.5/11 from the show after a 1.5/4 score for “America’s Funniest Home Videos” at 7 p.m.

With some strong competition --- and no NFL afternoon-into-prime-time action of its own -- CBS couldn’t get any show above a 2.0 rating: “60 Minutes” (1.6/4); “The Amazing Race” (1.5/4); “The Good Wife” (1.3/3); and “The Mentalist” (1.5/4)
