Startup Makes You An Offline Cookie!

A startup, Swarm Mobile, has raised about $3.5 million on a bet that brick and mortar retailers will pay for consumer insights. Specifically, Swarm's technology tracks consumers in-store via their smartphones. The idea is that the company's platform gives physical shops the same data channels e-commerce stores have. The company says it treats smartphones like “offline cookies” so stores can personalize the experience for new and repeat shoppers.
