Twitter cofounder Biz Stone and former Twitter colleague Ben Finkel have launched a social search app called Jelly. The app taps into the user's social networks to deliver answers.

Rather than 140 characters in a tweet, Jelly relies on photos and people from the person's social network. It's a search engine where users follow friends and connect through social circles to discover information. Stone announced the details of a new mobile app on the company blog.

Users can send text queries or take a photo and send it out to their network of friends for answers. If friends don't have the answer, users can forward their query outside the app to find one. Stone will serve as the company's CEO; Finkel, chief technology officer. The two co-founded Jelly in April.

Stone, 39, left Twitter two years ago but remains a company adviser who meets weekly with fellow co-founders Evan Williams and Jack Dorsey to exchange ideas about the service, according to ABC News. Some of those ideas get passed to Twitter CEO Dick Costolo.

 “Jelly is designed to search the group mind of your social networks--and what goes around, comes around. You may find yourself answering questions, as well as asking,” according to the company's blog post. Others have tried that model, too, such as Ask.com, Google Answers, Quora and Yahoo Answers.

The mobile app is available at the Apple iTunes app Store and Google Play.
