The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office awarded Google nearly 2,000 patents last year, nearly double the amount in all previous years combined.
The Financial Times estimates it put the
technology company on top when it comes to building a stockpile of legal rights based on in-house research. The increase is partly the result of Google Glass and driverless car-related patents.
