promotional lure of NBC’s Sochi Winter Olympics, Comcast is offering free access to Xfinity-branded WiFi hotspots to hype the digital video brand.
These WiFi locations, in shopping
districts, parks, train platforms and small businesses, will be available on a complimentary basis to non-Xfinity subscribers for the 2014 Sochi Winter Games running Feb. 6 through Feb. 24.
Comcast offered a similar promotion for the NBC London Summer Olympics in 2012. Comcast WiFi locations are in Philadelphia, Chicago, Baltimore, Boston, San Francisco and parts of New Jersey.
Viewers can watch NBCUniversal’s authenticated TV Everywhere coverage of the games at Xfinity.com/NBCOlympics; NBCOlympics.com; and from an NBC Sports Live Extra app for tablets and
smartphones. Viewers can access all 98 competitions from 15 sports across more than 1,000 hours.
For the London Olympics, Comcast says 217 million TV viewers watched the games.
On the digital front, there were 82.1 million unique visitors to NBCOlympics.com and NBC apps; 1.93 billion page views on NBCOlympics.com, NBC apps and XfinityTV.com/NBCOlympics; 159.3 million total
video streams online and on NBC apps; and 27.6 million views On Demand on Xfinity TV (over 2,000 On Demand titles).
