With the first anniversary of the Boston Marathon bombings fast approaching, event sponsor AT&T is planning to honor the spirit of the race and its participants with a special "digital tribute"
and fundraising drive.
As part of the effort, the telecom giant is asking Marathon fans and participants to submit videos showing their passion for the City of Boston and its beloved
Marathon. AT&T will then curate the videos into a digital mosaic that will be shown at the Athlete's Village on Marathon Day, April 21st.
AT&T will also be running a
fundraising drive for One Fund Boston, a foundation created to assist the victims of the 2013 bombings. The company, which has already donated $1 million to the charity, will contribute $1 for
each of the first 10,000 video submissions.
Videos can be submitted via Twitter using the hashtag #ItsOurBoston and at www.itsourboston.com. AT&T customers can send a $10 donation to
One Fund Boston by texting BOSTON to 80108. The donation will be added to the user's monthly bill.
In addition to the video mosaic, AT&T will set up free calling stations near the
finish line so that runners can contact loved ones. Fans can also sign up to receive text or email updates on the progress of their favorite runners during the race. Those interested can sign up by
texting RUNNER to 345678 or going to www.baa.org.
