Carbonite Calls Media Review

Boston-based Carbonite has launched a media review, according to sources. The company offers cloud-based data backup services.

A company financial filing indicated that its advertising expenses have totaled about $25 million in each of the past three years.

“Our largest expense is advertising for customer acquisition,” the filing stated. “This is comprised of television and radio advertising, online display advertising, print advertising, paid search, direct marketing and other expenses.”

Previously, the company used Blitz Media, also based in Boston, to handle its media chores, but Blitz shuttered its operation earlier this year.

Carbonite issued an RFI in February. The scope of work includes media planning and buying and metrics tracking per the RFI. The RFI said the company also relies heavily on direct response channels in its advertising mix.

Last year, the company had revenue of $107.2 million.

A company rep did not return a query seeking comment on the review.
