How Google Conserves Energy

It takes energy to process data. Servers that process queries or connect people from their mobile phones to content the cloud requires a bunch of energy. The company focuses on reducing that energy consumption as it continues to serve the explosive growth of the Internet. As part of its effort to conserve, Google's main centers in European -- St. Ghislain, Belgium, Hamina, Finland, and Dublin, Ireland -- recently gained ISO 50001 certification, which means the company must adhere to a strict auditing process by continually monitoring the way the centers use energy.
