Disney Taps Goldston As President, ABC News

Disney-ABC Television’s shifting of its senior executives continues with James Goldston becoming president of ABC News.

Goldston, who had been senior vice president of ABC News, takes over for Ben Sherwood, who was previously announced as the new co-president of Disney-ABC Television Group, and is succeeding long-time veteran Anne Sweeney.

He will be responsible for all editorial and business decisions for ABC News on its programming for the ABC Television Network, ABC News Radio, ABCNews.com and ABC News Now.

Goldston took over his current post in March 2012, where he oversees all ABC News programs and executive producers. Before this, he was senior executive producer of “Good Morning America” from February 2011 through March 2012 -- and was key in the show’s rise over longtime morning news leader NBC’s “Today.”

Originally, he came to ABC News in 2004 as senior producer of prime-time specials and investigations. Before ABC, Goldston worked for U.K. ITV network, both as a producer and executive producer.

These executive changes were initiated when Anne Sweeney, an 18-year veteran of Disney-ABC, announced she was departing to pursue a career as a television director.
