Mauricio Sabogal Departing BPN For Kinetic

Mauricio Sabogal, global head of IPG Mediabrands agency BPN is leaving, the agency confirmed Thursday. He is heading to Kinetic, the WPP out-of-home agency where he will replace Steve Ridley, whose departure as CEO of the agency was widely reported last month.

Rupert Day, global CEO of WPP's tenthavenue -- of which Kinetic is a part -- confirmed that Sabogal will be joining the out-of-home shop next month as Global CEO based in New York. Tenthavenue oversees a number of WPP specialty advertising and marketing firms including Kinetic, mobile agency Joule, content publisher Spafax and online performance marketing agency Quisma.

Mediabrands issued a statement confirming Sabogal’s departure. “BPN continues to enjoy strong leadership in the US under President Liz Ross and the North American management team, as well as across key regions globally, supported by G14 CEO Jim Hytner and World Markets CEO Andrea Suarez. We are determining next steps as we look to fill the global role that Mauricio previously held.”

Sabogal joined Interpublic Group’s Initiative in 2009 in the then-new role of worldwide managing director. In 2012 when IPG launched BPN as a third media agency brand, Sabogal was tapped as global CEO. Just prior to stepping into the BPN role he had been president of world markets for IPG Mediabrands. He initially joined IPG from the Omnicom Media Group.

This story has been updated to include confirmation of Sabogal's new role by Rupert Day, Global CEO, WPP's tenthavenue.
