Media Agency Veteran Charlie Rutman Joins Horizon

Veteran media agency executive Charlie Rutman has joined Horizon Media as a managing partner, effective immediately, the shop has confirmed.

Rutman was the North American CEO for Havas Group’s MPG (now Havas Media) for four years until 2009. Before that, he had teamed with David Verklin to build the presence of Aegis Group’s Carat in the U.S. (Carat and Aegis are now part of Dentsu).

During his run at MPG, Rutman brought in several new clients, including Dannon, ExxonMobil, Boehringer-Ingelheim, Esurance, Pearle Vision, Sears, Carnival Cruises, Spiriva, Mucinex and Jones Apparel Group.

Earlier, he worked with clients such as Coca-Cola and Miller Brewing.

Most recently, Rutman was head of his own media and marketing consultancy Endzone Communications, advising clients such as the Ad Council. He was also a board member and advisor to OOH network indoorDirect.

Rutman and Horizon Media Founder and CEO Bill Koenigsberg have known each other and competed for years in the business. They started talking a few months back about the possibility of Rutman joining the agency.
