More people are taking to the roads and airways this July 4 holiday weekend compared to last year, according to an analysis of Expedia.com data.
Domestic flights during the June 30 to July 6 time period are up 10% over the same week last year.
Among the most popular destinations, the nation’s capital is seeing the largest uptick in visitors with 9% more travelers flying into Washington this July 4th week than in 2013. New York City tops the list of July 4 holiday travel destinations, edging Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Chicago and Washington, in the top five.
San Francisco, Orlando, Denver, Boston and Seattle round out the top 10. San Francisco and Seattle have seen a decrease in year-over-year average ticket prices during the holiday week, making them an attractive destination for budget-conscious travelers.

Nationwide, average ticket prices are 2% higher this July 4 holiday season than the year prior. Expedia recommends that travelers demonstrate flexibility in their travel dates if possible, because avoiding the peak travel dates remains one of the smartest ways to capture travel deals.
The travel booking company has introduced a mobile-based coupon to drive down costs for travelers over the July 4 holiday period. The Expedia Mobile coupon offers consumers $50 dollars off of their first app purchase, based on a minimum spend of $200 for travel between June 27 and July 7.
Consumers can also earn Double Expedia Rewards Points with featured hotels, vacation packages, and cruises when booked by July 21.
