Survey Finds Lots To Like In Community Journalism

A new survey of hyperlocal online news sites reveals that many of them have been responsible for investigative and campaigning journalism. Of the 183 sites covered by the study, 42% said they had instigated their own campaigns over issues such as planning disputes, cuts to public services and local council accountability. Researchers regard that as "an impressive figure given the time and effort involved in starting, building, and sustaining a new campaign."
