PHD Swipes UM's Wiseman, Forms Strategic Communications Post

Omnicom media shop PHD Worldwide has named Will Wiseman to the newly created role of president, Strategic Communications, PHD USA.

Wiseman joins PHD following seven years at Interpublic Group’s UM, where he most recently held the post of EVP, head of US Strategy -- managing a team of strategists across all UM US offices and leading strategy for U.S. clients and new business efforts.

Wiseman is the second senior executive that PHD has recruited from UM this month. Earlier the agency appointed Nathan Brown U.S. CEO. At UM, Brown was EVP and managing director and New York office lead. Wiseman, based in New York, begins his new role October 15 and will report to Brown.

Commenting on Wiseman’s appointment, Page Thompson, CEO Omnicom Media Group North America said: "Great strategy lives at the intersection of inspiration and innovation. Over the course of his career, Will has demonstrated an unerring ability to deliver on both of these mandates.”

At UM, Wiseman is credited with leading the strategy effort that helped to land the U.S. portion of the Heinz business a few months ago. Earlier his efforts helped the agency win the Chrysler account.

After starting his career in the consumer products consultancy of PricewaterhouseCoopers, Wiseman moved to a three-year stint as a digital marketing strategist at Zentropy Partners. He then spent five years at Ogilvy as worldwide group director of marketing strategy, primarily focused on the American Express OPEN account.
