NEW! Sports Advertising Cliches Run Rampant In Latest Foot Locker Ad

footlockerFoot Locker launched a great 60-second TV spot starring NBA player Russell Westbrook offering up some extreme motivation to a teen who believes he can fly when wearing the new Jordan 29s. To be like Mike, you need to put in the hard work before your face and name are known worldwide. So the teen is put through a rigorous workout that happens to use every sports advertising cliche possible: he's woken in the wee hours of the morning with a glass of cold water thrown on him, eats a raw egg for breakfast, hears classic theme music, endures a kettlebell workout and having Spike Lee tell him he can't play. The kid works out until he's spent and arrives home and falls asleep in his sweaty clothes. Westbrook gets another glass of water and throws it on the teen. "If it's here, it's approved," closes the ad, seen here, and created by BBDO New York.
