SC Johnson Selects PHD For Global Comms Planning Duties

Omnicom Media Group’s PHD has been awarded global communications planning duties for SC Johnson, the company confirmed Tuesday morning.

The planning assignment covers approximately $300 million in brand expenditures and will be managed out of PHD’s Chicago office, sources said. The client is based in nearby Racine, Wisconsin.

The company spends an estimated $1 billion on measured media worldwide.

The selection came after a review in which the buying incumbent, GroupM’s Maxus, also participated.

PHD declined comment, referring queries to the company.

The company issued this statement: "In the course of renewing contracts with our advertising agencies, we have made a decision to have one global media planning agency, which will be PHD. We are currently working on a transition timeline. We anticipate completing the transition by spring."

The company added that "PHD will work with both of our creative agencies: BBDO and Ogilvy. We continue to work with both creative agencies globally."

Maxus continues to handle buying for the household products giant. Maxus won those duties and some planning chores after a review in 2011.

SC Johnson brands include Pledge, Ziploc and Shout, among many others.
