Marriott Offers GoPro Cameras For Guests

Marriott Hotels is loaning miniature video cameras to guests at select properties to help them better capture their vacation memories.

The GoPro HERO4 cameras are available at 17 Caribbean and Latin American resorts and hotels. Guests can test-drive a GoPro HERO4, the most advanced GoPro yet, and capture and share all of their adventures and experiences.

A YouTube video details some of the ways guests can use the waterproof cameras, from skydiving to snorkeling. Marriott also has a dedicated Web site for the collaboration, which currently does not have an end date.

"Next-generation travelers” are looking for ways to create and share their experiences and Marriott has made it a priority to constantly introduce innovation at its hotels that is engaging, says Craig S. Smith, president of the Caribbean and Latin America at Marriott International.

"We live in a digital and social age. Through this program, we're giving guests a fun way to tell their own travel story using the versatile and memory-making GoPro technology and immediately share their content with friends and family," Smith says in a release.

Guests are encouraged to submit their photo and video content across social platforms using the hashtags #GoPro, #travelbrilliantly and #viajegenial for the chance to be featured on the Marriott Hotels' Web site,

The submitted content will be curated to share across Marriott International's social media channels and the in-room entertainment system at participating hotels. To celebrate the launch of the program, guests' content will also be selected from social media channels to win prizes such as vacation stays, Marriott Rewards points and GoPro cameras.

Participating properties include: Aruba Marriott Resort & Stellaris Casino, CasaMagna Marriott Cancun Resort, CasaMagna Marriott Puerto Vallarta Resort & Spa, Costa Rica Marriott Hotel San Jose, Curacao Marriott Beach Resort & Emerald Casino, Frenchman's Reef & Morning Star Marriott Beach Resort, Grand Cayman Marriott Beach Resort, JW Marriott Cancun Resort & Spa, JW Marriott Guanacaste Resort, JW Marriott Hotel Lima, JW Marriott Hotel Quito, JW Marriott Hotel Rio de Janeiro, JW Marriott El Convento Cusco, JW Marriott Panama Golf & Beach Resort, Los Suenos Marriott Ocean & Golf Resort, San Juan Marriott Resort & Stellaris Casino and St. Kitts Marriott Resort & The Royal Beach Casino.

Allowing travelers to rent out a Go-Pro during their exotic vacation really provides the ultimate memory-making experience for those staying at the hotel. Customers are encouraged to participate by providing incentives such as a free stay, etc. Not only does this promote the brand of Go-Pro and Marriot but it also promotes “how spontaneous and amusing” the person is. Creating videos and documenting vacations is becoming and important part of our culture. People are beginning to live more for documenting the experience rather than actually living in the moment. The new social norm of having the footage allows the consumer to relive the experience over and over again. One question I pose for those at the Marriot is how they plan to keep track of these camera’s as well as what happens if a customer damages the $500 camera? I am not sure how happy customers will be when they find the charge onto the room.
