AMC Scores With 'Better Call Saul,' Grammys Sing For CBS

CBS and AMC produced big results on the second Sunday in February.

AMC returned another eye-popping season return for “The Walking Dead” -- with a massive Nielsen 15.6 million viewers and a 8.0 (10.1 million) rating among 18-49 viewers.

AMC’s premiere of its “Breaking Bad” spinoff drama “Better Call Saul” also registered strong results -- 6.9 million viewers and 3.4 (4.4 million) rating adults 18-49 viewers. AMC says the show is “the biggest series premiere in cable history.”

All this went head to head with CBS’ three-hour “Grammy Awards” telecast, which, while dipping a bit from the year before, earned a stronger 25.3 million viewers and a 8.5 (10.8 million) 18-49 rating, down from a 9.9 18-49 number in 2014.

Most other broadcast network fare was in reruns on the night, with only Fox airing virtually all originals of its Sunday night animated shows.

CBS averaged a Nielsen 7 rating/19 share among 18-49 viewers and 22.1 million viewers overall on the night -- pulling in more viewers in all categories than the next four broadcast networks combined.

Well down the list after CBS, ABC was at a 1.1/3 (4.2 million overall viewers); Fox, a 1.0/3 (2.16 million viewers); Univision, a 0.8/2 (2.19 million); and NBC, 0.7/2 (3.19 million).

    I hate letting facts get in the way of a good story, but the biggest cable series premiere remains ESPN's Monday Night Football in 2006. it got 12.6 million viewers and a 4.7 A18-49 rating.
