TEN Acquires Torque.TV, Ups Digital Video

The Enthusiast Network is moving to expand its digital video offerings with the acquisition of Torque.TV, an online media company that will provide motorsports and automotive enthusiast programming for TEN’s Motor Trend OnDemand, a new over-the-top video platform launching this summer.

Torque.TV chairman and founder Roger Werner is joining TEN’s board of directors.

The Motor Tend OnDemand subscription video-on-demand platform will launch with more than 1,000 hours of live and taped programming from TEN’s media portfolio, including Motor Trend, Hot Rod, Automobile, Four Wheeler and Super Street, as well as content created by its in-house studio division, MindOverEye.

It will also draw on content from sources including Roadkill, Head 2 Head, Ignition, Pirelli World Challenge, Blancpain Endurance and Sprint GT series, Goodwood Festival of Speed, Australian V8 Supercars, Porsche Carrera Cup, British Touring Car Championship, North American Endurocross, and Engine Masters.

TEN CEO Scott Dickey stated: “Fueled by the acquisition of Torque.TV, Motor Trend OnDemand is now poised to become our Netflix for Motorheads.”

TEN Chief Content Officer Angus MacKenzie outline the company’s plans: “We will acquire, curate and create world-class automotive video content, and engage and activate our audience via the Web, social, print, mobile and event platforms of brands such as Motor Trend, Hot Rod and Automobile.”

The subscription VOD service will be available for desktop, mobile, tablet, streaming devices, gaming consoles, connected televisions and set-top device like Apple TV and Roku.

As part of the acquisition, TEN is also partnering with CBS to distribute over 130 hours of motorsports content via the CBS Sports Network.
