Super Bowl Ads From Dot-Coms Disappear

Last year's Super Bowl, besides being an uncommonly entertaining football game, was notable for the 17 Internet companies that advertised during the broadcast, some memorably. Remember the Pets.com spot with the sock puppet? Well, Pets.com doesn't exist anymore, and neither, according to the New York Times, do Super Bowl ads from the Internet sector. Only three Internet companies are ponying up the $2.3 million average cost to advertise for 30 seconds during the game this year. Instead, as the New York Daily News points out, some more traditional companies, like Volkswagen and Levi Strauss, will be making their Super Sunday debuts.
