An ad agency creates and launches a new Web site. It's enough to put a triple espresso-sucking, overly ambitious Millennial social media junkie to sleep. But wait -- this one isn't half bad.
Toronto-based agency Red Lion
launched a new Web site that...wait for it...is its own geography; a "traversable digital world"
populated by different cities that provides a bit of urban exploration. The Web site is intended to represent a digital world that is an online graphical representation of creative capitalism --
which, of course, is the agency’s recently redefined position.
Developed in-house by Red Lion, the Web site’s 3D architecture is explorable in much the same way as one
navigates through Google Maps or Street View. The site has been optimized for mobile, allowing users to navigate the digital cities by tilting and moving their mobile devices in different
directions.
Of the approach, Red Lion CCO Matt Litzinger said: “One of the signifiers of capitalism is skyscrapers and we thought, why not leverage this in a new way. The result, we
think, is fun and playful."
Visitors to the site start with a bird’s-eye view. They float above the clouds with chirping before being swept downward toward the buildings of Red
Lion’s three-dimensional digital city which becomes increasingly distinct the closer they get. The initial landing point is the largest of a smattering of cities in Red Lion’s digital
world, each one providing visitors with a different gateway into various aspects of the agency, including its beliefs, the work, various disciplines and so on.
