Starz Taps Hirsch As Prez, Global Marketing

Jeffrey Hirsch, a senior Time Warner Cable marketing executive, will take on a new position Starz, the big premium pay TV channel group, as president of global marketing and product planning.

Hirsch will include oversee new products and services for Starz and work with the company’s strategy, distribution, marketing and product planning teams to boost sales and revenue. He will report to Chris Albrecht, CEO of Starz.

Since 2011, Hirsch had been EVP/CMO of residential services at Time Warner Cable, responsible for all corporate marketing activities. He has been at the company since 1999.

Previous posts for Hirsch included positions at NYNEX Corp. and McCann-Erickson in advertising.

In the first quarter of this year, Starz reported revenue of $450.7 million up from $420.0 million in the first quarter of 2014. Net income grew to $86.1 million from $66.8 million.

Starz will air some 75-80 episodes of original scripted series this year. Two of its stronger series include “Outlander” and “Black Sails.”

Starz's channels are available to approximately 29.3 million TV households -- 25.1% of all U.S. cable, satellite and telco customers, while 28.5 million subscribers or 24.5% receive Starz's primary channel. Starz claims to be the second most widely distributed premium pay TV network in the U.S.
