Consumers May Be Mulling Ractopamine When They Buy Pork

“Produced without the use of ractopamine” is a marketing idea from David Maren, founder of Tendergrass Farms, which sells pork products from pigs raised the “all-natural” way, on pasture. Ractopamine is a widely used “beta agonist” that builds muscle, instead of fat, and builds bulk. It was approved by the FDA in 1999, but the E.U., China, Russia have not approved the drug. China, a huge market, wants its pork ractopamine free, so processors are also asking for it that way.
