So 9/11. The 14th anniversary of that day occurred this past Friday. On Friday, Goodby Silverstein & Partners launched an app called 9:11Moments of Reflection, which in their own words, is "designed to turn painful memories of 9/11 into something positive."
Once you
load the app onto your phone, it sends you a notification at 9:11 a.m and 9:11 p.m. and serves up a collection of moody graphics and music that are designed to help you contemplate life's
challenges.
The app is described thusly: "In the same vein of people making a wish at 11:11, this app encourages them to respectfully reflect on what happened that day, by bringing
to their phones contemplative sounds and elegant animations, and offering inspirational quotes about forgiveness and unity."
Every day at 9:11. a.m. and p.m.
I mean
yeah -- reflection is always a good thing. But twice a day. Every day? Thankfully, you can set the app to send notifications only during the month of September or in perpetuity. Because, hey -- some
people like to contemplate more than others.
But that's not all the app does. The app, in addition to reminding you to contemplate things twice a day at 9:11, a.m. and p.m., also
encourages donations in support of Washington-based Newseum, a museum that houses a permanent gallery of 9/11-related information along with highlighting the journalists who took great risks to bring
us the story of that day.
Of the inspiration which led to the design of the app, Goodby Silverstein & Partners Creative Director Adam Reeves said: “While we [he and senior art
director Carlo Barreto] were at lunch after a rather challenging morning at work, we started to talk about how we’ve overcome challenges in life, which led us to discuss larger issues and how
people as a whole overcome and move on with optimism in hand.”
