Russian Court Fines Google For Targeting Ads Based on Gmail Conversations

A Russian court has fined Google 50 thousand rubles ($765) for 'violating correspondence secrecy' laws in the country by targeting online ads based on the content of emails in a user's Gmail account. The decision from charges brought by a Russian citizen against the tech giant. Anton Burkov, deputy head of European law department at the Yekaterinburg Humanitarian University, sued Google after he noticed that ads were based on his correspondence.
