It’s no secret that, politically speaking, the media industry has traditionally tended to skew toward the left (indignant conservatives will doubtless protest that “skew” is an understatement), but the low cost and ease of online publishing has allowed conservatives to even the playing field somewhat.
Indeed, the blogosphere has a notable rightward bent, and now conservatives are getting into the content aggregation game, as well.
This week, a group of economists and former presidential candidate and Forbes publisher Steve Forbes launched a new content portal for their pro-business organization, called the Committee to Unleash Prosperity.
Forbes joined forces with economists Arthur B. Laffer, creator of the “Laffer curve” demonstrating the benefits of low taxation; Larry Kudlow, host of “The Larry Kudlow Show,” a nationally syndicated radio show; and former Wall Street Journal economics editor Steve Moore to launch the site.
The site includes a content aggregator called The Supply Side, which will gather economic news, and publish expert commentary and analysis of the economic policies advocated by candidates in the 2016 presidential election.
The Committee to Unleash Prosperity advocates supply-side measures, including a low flat tax rate (famously advocated by Forbes during his candidacy), free trade, less regulation and reduced spending. It has hosted events with current and former GOP contenders, including Bobby Jindal, John Kasich, Scott Walker, Mike Huckabee, Rick Perry, Ted Cruz, Lindsey Graham and Carly Fiorina.
Video of these events appears on the site.
Kudlow outlined the Committee’s mission and editorial stance: “We founded the Committee to remind the public just how much is at stake in the upcoming election: a choice between economic growth and jobs that benefits all in society, and the stagnation that leads to social conflict and class warfare. We need the candidates to recapture Reagan's vision of a growing, hopeful nation that is exceptional in the world. Our news portal will highlight this.”
