Baskin-Robbins In Donations, Texting Programs For Veterans Day

This Veterans Day (Nov. 11), Dunkin' Brands' Baskin-Robbins will donate 11 cents to the United Service Organizations (USO) for each regular or kids' ice cream scoop sold in a cone or cup in its U.S. locations.

The donation program's success in its first year last year prompted the brand to repeat the program, says Rick Woods, VP, operations, Baskin-Robbins U.S. and Canada. The amount was upped from 10 cents to 11 cents this year to increase the donation, and also to reflect Veterans Day's date, which is always 11/11.

Also this year, Baskin-Robbins, along with the USO, is asking people to thank the more than 1.3 million active duty service members around the world by texting THANKYOU to 50555. No donations are involved.

During the month of November, B-R customers can also opt to buy their ice cream in "camouflage" waffle cones or waffle bowls. (Prices are set by individual franchisees.)

Since 2012, Baskin-Robbins has offered a special incentives program for veterans who want to open a B-R franchise in the U.S. Incentives include the waiving, on a veteran's first restaurant, of the normal $25,000 initial franchise fee, among other advantages.
The brand's interest in supporting veterans goes back to its founders Burt Baskin and Irv Robbins, who were World War II veterans, says Woods, who also served in the military.
