Cablevision Systems' Screens See Lower Revs, Net Losses For Video, Voice Customers

Cablevision Systems, which entered into an agreement in September to be bought by European telecommunications company Altice, witnessed a decline in third-quarter revenues and video customers.

Net revenues declined 0.8% to $1.61 billion, primarily as a result of fewer video and voice customers versus the same period a year ago. Net income sank to $23.0 million from $71.8 million in the third quarter of 2014.

Cablevision had a net loss of 33,000 video customers to total 2.6 million, with revenue down 3% to $785 million. The company also had a net loss of 20,000 voice customers to 2.2 million, with revenues off 2% to $228 million.

However, as with many cable operators, Cablevision witnessed an improvement in its high speed/broadband data business, gaining 3,000 customers to 2.8 billion. Revenue was inched up to $371 million versus $370 million.

Its average monthly revenue by customer -- which can include video, voice and broadband services -- was 2% lower to $155.04.

The company's local advertising revenue was down 11% to $32 million. Other businesses -- Newsday, News 12 Networks, and Cablevision Media Sales Corporation -- witnessed a 5.6% drop in revenue to $83.6 million, primarily due to lower advertising revenue at Newsday.
