Giannini Named 'Nylon' EIC, Pub Remains Dedicated To Print

Melissa Giannini has replaced Michelle Lee as Nyloneditor-in-chief.

Paul Greenberg, CEO of Nylon, announced Nov. 5 that Michelle Lee was leaving the company, and Giannini would succeed her, effective immediately. Lee was with the magazine for a little over a year and a half and told The Cut she accepted a position at another company."

Giannini previously served as deputy editor for Nylon. She has been at the publication for a little over three years and previously worked at Spin and Martha Stewart Living.

In the announcement, chief revenue officer Sean Cullinane emphasized the magazine's multiplatform approach to production, suggesting that Nylon will prioritize their digital presence.

"Our massive growth on the digital front in 2015 has been supported in many ways by the brand equity and quality content the magazine continues to deliver,” he stated.

“Melissa's passion for Nylon is evident, and I'm excited that she's taking the reins now as editorial-driven native and branded content emerge as major revenue drivers across all our platforms."

However, Greenberg made it clear that Nylon is dedicated to their print publication. “We still believe strongly in print, and our magazine continues to be a leader in its category,” Greenberg told Publishers Daily.

In September, the publication hit 4.2 million organic unique visitors to nylon.com, up from 500,000 a year ago.

The editorial shuffle comes at a transition period for Nylon.

In May 2014, the CEO at the time, Joe Mohen, stepped down, after Nylon co-founder and editor in chief Marvin Scott Jarrett and publisher Jaclynn Jarrett resigned, New York Post reported. Executive editor Ashley Baker also resigned, after turning down an offer to succeed Jarrett as editor-in-chief.

In March, the 11-year-old Nylon Guys went all-digital and shifted more resources to Nylon.

Both Nylon and Nylon Guys were acquired by Diversis Capital in May 2014.
