IBT Media Taps Perton To Develop New Sites

News organization IBT Media announced Tuesday that Marc Perton will be appointed in the newly created role of editorial director, tech. Perton will be in charge of developing new tech-focused Web sites.

Perton will also oversee IBT Media’s portfolio of brands in the technology vertical.

“As IBT Media develops its existing tech brands and expands by launching new sites within the vertical, we want to have a comprehensive approach to coverage for the ever-crucial technology beat,” stated cofounder and chief content officer, Johnathan Davis.

Perton will build a team of technology reporters to launch and supervise several consumer-facing technology sites. He will also be responsible for planning, hiring, growing readership and escalating the brands and online experience.

Perton will work across editorial, technology and business teams.

Before moving to IBT Media, Perton worked at Havas Worldwide as a creative director of content. He previously served as editor in chief of Engadget, director of content for GDGT, executive editor of online media for Consumer Reports and executive producer for Oxygen Media. Perton has also held positions at iVillage, Citi, United Online and Big Think.

Perton will be based out of IBT Media’s New York headquarters and will report directly to Davis.

IBT Media’s publications include International Business Times (IB Times), Newsweek, Medical Daily, Latin Times, iDigital Times and Fashion Times.

IBT Media has been expanding and developing rapidly in recent months.

Earlier this month, IBT Media announced that Eric Gonon would join the company as vice president for video production and strategy. Gonon will develop and launch a comprehensive video plan for all of IBT Media’s properties including Newsweek and International Business Times.

“Expanding and optimizing our video production capabilities for both newsroom and native content is a top priority for the company as we continue to innovate and expand our news operations in the U.S. and around the world,” Etienne Uzac, CEO and cofounder of IBT Media, stated at the time.

In June, IBT Media acquired Fashion Times LLC, which operates five sites, including Fashion Times and Fashion & Style.
