Google, Disney Let 'Star Wars' Fan Choose Sides

Disney has partnered with Google, allowing mobile users to integrate a "Star Wars" theme into Google's apps, the two announced Monday.

Google gave its engineers the reins to expand on Google's apps, integrating a "Star Wars" theme, wrote Clay Bavor, vice president of product management, in a blog post. He says the company is filled with dedicated "Star Wars" fans.

The engineers put users of the apps in control. Before the apps get a retrofit, the user must choose whether they want to join the light or the dark sides of the Force.

Based on that choice, the background in Google's apps, like Gmail, Google Maps, YouTube, Chrome, Android Wear and others. transform to reflect the path. The slight changes in each app reflect "Star Wars" details in "The Force Awakens," scheduled for released worldwide in December.

Choosing the light side puts the user in the company of Jedi masters Yoda and Obi-Wan Kenobi; the dark side puts the user closer to the villains like Dark Vader.

The keywords to consider are compassion, mercy, and self sacrifice vs. fear, anger and strength. Users can change sides whenever they want.

Google plans to roll out "Star Wars"-related changes leading up to the movie release next month. The company has hidden some Easter eggs too.
