Cox Media, a leading developer of ad-supported video-on-demand (VOD) TV programming services, Tuesday announced an expansion of its FreeZone system to an additional eight markets. FreeZone, which
launched in July 2002 in San Diego, was one of the first efforts to incorporate advertising as part of a business model for distributing VOD programming. Early advertisers have included Coca-Cola,
BMW, Volvo and Best Buy. The new markets include Orange County, Calif.; Las Vegas; New Orleans; Oklahoma City; Omaha, Neb.; Hampton Roads, Va.; Connecticut; and Rhode Island.
