  • February 10, 2005
Hitwise yesterday reported that advertisers with the most sexually nuanced commercials drew the most Web traffic on Super Bowl Sunday, with GoDaddy.com leading the way. GoDaddy's total market share of U.S. Internet visits increased 260 percent on Super Bowl Sunday versus the previous day. Traffic to the Web site for the male impotence drug Cialis increased 155 percent. Visits to the Tabasco Web site increased 118 percent.

Hitwise's click-stream data revealed that 23 percent of visitors to GoDaddy.com continued on to company founder Bob Parson's blog. His blog revealed the story behind the ad as well as why the second showing of the ad was cancelled.

A McDonald's spot featuring an Abraham Lincoln-like french fry boosted traffic to the company's site by 43 percent on Sunday, and same-day market share of visits to itunes.com increased by 43.7 percent upon a joint launch promotion by iTunes and Pepsi.
